Run the technology, and teach it.
BOLO IT is seeking an IT Director to lead the institution's technology function and manage its IT academic program. The role spans infrastructure, systems, the learning management system, classroom technology and technical support, alongside IT curriculum coordination and support for technology faculty.
The institution
BOLO Institute of Technology is a higher-education institution in Cameroon, architected around three pathways — Higher National Diploma, Bachelor's and Master's — and being developed to prepare professionals, innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs across science, technology, health, agriculture, business and the applied professions, for opportunities in Cameroon, across Africa and internationally.
BOLO IT is being built around a distinctive educational model: rigorous academics combined with hands-on laboratories, real-world projects, internships, professional certifications, mentorship and instruction shaped by experienced technology practitioners. The institution is intentionally globally oriented, AI-enabled and Silicon Valley-inspired.
A student educated at BOLO IT in Cameroon should leave with the academic foundation, practical capability, AI fluency, professional exposure and confidence to compete with technology talent anywhere in the world.
The opportunity
This role is deliberately two-sided. One side is operational: the network, systems, LMS, laboratories, classroom technology and support that a technology institution is judged on. The other is academic: coordinating the IT curriculum and supporting the faculty who deliver it. The IT Director may also teach IT courses, depending on qualifications and assigned teaching load.
Leadership mandate
- Build technology infrastructure a technology institution can credibly stand behind.
- Make the LMS and classroom technology dependable enough that teaching never waits on them.
- Coordinate the IT curriculum with the Academic Director and the faculty delivering it.
- Support technology faculty practically, not only administratively.
Core responsibilities
Infrastructure & systems
Design, procure and operate the network, connectivity, servers, cloud services, devices and information security appropriate to the institution's size and ambition.
LMS & classroom technology
Own the learning management system and the technology in classrooms and laboratories, from configuration and accounts through to day-to-day reliability.
Technical support
Run support for students, faculty and staff, with response standards that keep teaching and administration moving.
IT curriculum & faculty support
Coordinate the IT academic program with the Academic Director, support technology faculty, and teach IT courses where qualifications and teaching load allow.
Required qualifications
- Master's degree minimum in computer science, information technology, engineering or a related field.
- Experience leading an IT function — infrastructure, systems, security and support.
- Practical command of networks, cloud platforms, identity and endpoint management.
- Experience with learning management systems or comparable academic platforms.
- Teaching or curriculum experience in a technology discipline is an advantage.
- Working ability in both English and French; systems, vendors and students use both.
The leader we are looking for
This role suits a practitioner who is credible in a server room and in a classroom, and content to move between them in the same day.
- Hands-on capability
- Can configure the thing, not only specify who should be asked to configure it.
- Teaching instinct
- Explains a system to a first-year student without either condescending or losing them.
- Reliability focus
- Treats an unreliable classroom projector as an academic problem, because it is.
- Security awareness
- Protects student data as a matter of routine rather than after an incident.
