Own what the institution actually teaches.
BOLO IT is seeking an Academic Director to complete and validate the curriculum across the Higher National Diploma, Bachelor's and Master's pathways, and to build the teaching, assessment and quality frameworks the institution will open with.
The institution
BOLO Institute of Technology is a higher-education institution in Cameroon, architected around three pathways — Higher National Diploma, Bachelor's and Master's — and being developed to prepare professionals, innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs across science, technology, health, agriculture, business and the applied professions, for opportunities in Cameroon, across Africa and internationally.
BOLO IT is being built around a distinctive educational model: rigorous academics combined with hands-on laboratories, real-world projects, internships, professional certifications, mentorship and instruction shaped by experienced technology practitioners. The institution is intentionally globally oriented, AI-enabled and Silicon Valley-inspired.
A student educated at BOLO IT in Cameroon should leave with the academic foundation, practical capability, AI fluency, professional exposure and confidence to compete with technology talent anywhere in the world.
The opportunity
This role owns the academic core. Before launch the work is design: program structures, module descriptors, credit and assessment frameworks, teaching timetables and the faculty needed to deliver them. After launch it becomes academic quality assurance, faculty development, examination integrity and responsibility for student academic progress.
Leadership mandate
- Complete and validate curricula across all three pathways, aligned to the national syllabus.
- Build assessment and academic-integrity standards a regulator and an employer would each recognise.
- Recruit, induct and develop faculty, including industry practitioners who teach part-time.
- Make student academic progress visible and act on it early.
Core responsibilities
Programs & curriculum
Design, document and keep current the program structures, module descriptors, learning outcomes and credit frameworks across every pathway.
Faculty & teaching
Recruit, induct, timetable and develop academic staff. Observe teaching, support improvement and manage the balance between full-time faculty and practitioners.
Assessment & academic quality
Set assessment standards, moderation and academic-integrity policy. Run examination boards and maintain the evidence quality review and inspection require.
Student academic progress
Monitor attendance, progression and completion. Identify students at risk early and put academic support in place.
Required qualifications
- Master's degree minimum in a relevant discipline; a doctorate is an advantage.
- Experience as a programme lead, head of department or senior academic in higher education.
- Demonstrated curriculum design and validation experience, ideally against a national syllabus.
- Sound command of assessment design, moderation and academic-integrity practice.
- Working ability in both English and French; teaching, materials and regulators use both.
The leader we are looking for
This role suits an academic who would rather build a curriculum than inherit one, and who judges a programme by what students can do at the end of it.
- Academic rigour
- Holds the standard when a shortcut would be easier to defend internally.
- Design instinct
- Sees how modules connect into a pathway rather than as a list of subjects.
- Faculty judgement
- Can tell strong teaching from confident delivery, and develop the difference.
- Follow-through
- Turns a validated curriculum into timetables, materials and assessments that exist.
